Ha, I did a hilarious failed attempt at recording today. I'm visiting friends and family over the weekend, and this morning I was alone for a couple of hours at my friend's place while she was working. So I thought, hmm, maybe I could record something short (yes, I'd brought my mike along--it's pretty portable). But the thing is, she lives in an apartment with huge echoing rooms with high ceilings. So I, um, hung a sheet over the computer and my head to dampen the sound out, and tried to read. But of course it didn't work, because I had to keep still so it wouldn't rustle, and apparently I can't read without at least a little bit of acting it out with my body. Yes, feel free to laugh at me now. *facepalm*
Well, between having a fic to write for a holiday fest and having kids home for too many days this month (hurricane + teacher duty days + Thanksgiving + family trip = 8 days home), it's been virtually impossible. Also, I started the month with a sore throat and no voice.
I'm basically brand new to podficcing, so impediments are easy to come by.
My goal for this month was to have a finished podfic. That will be my whole focus next week. I guess I can actually work on it Sunday night too. If I manage that, I will be satisfied!
I sort of have that feeling about writing fanfic though. If I'm not working on a story or thinking about a story, something feels off:D
Yeah, sometimes circumstances can really conspire against us! *sympathizes* Maybe you can do something pretty short, so you don't have to carve out so much recording time?
I've been a writer longer than I've been a podficcer, but still, writing is always harder for me than podficcing. With writing, I can get mentally blocked, but with podfic, when I'm blocked it's always a physical block.
I am doing something short. I'm just so new, I have no confidence and I figure I want to record it several times before I actually record it to make sure I get it right.
Ah. I can understand that. I realized the other day that I wouldn't have to come up with a title for the podfic I'm recording and I was filled with glee at that thought! So far, I've not had major blockage issues with writing. I'm still fairly new at it (just over a year at this point) and bubbling with ideas. Also, when the ideas are not coming, it's a little bit of a relief for me, because then I can go work on quilts.

I'm amazed and impressed at the lengths you went to try to record.

Oh, don't say that! We all have ups and downs. *cheers you on*
And I guess recording is kind of a habit by now? It always feels like I'm missing something on days when I'm podblocked.
