HAPPY FRIDAY, PODMOER'S!!!!
In keeping with
sly_hostetter's post yesterday, I'd like to ask, "What makes you want to keep podficcing?"
We've all had those days when Audacity crashes and loses our work or recording a take feels like pulling teeth or no matter how many times you try, you simply cannot say that one Nordic incantation in your Thor podfic. What makes you come back to the mic, no matter how many times the external forces get you down?
Let's inspire each other to keep going! o/\o
*Reminder: This track, we are only posting on Dreamwidth. If you only have a Livejournal, or another platform, you can sign in using OpenID.

I guess at the end of the day, even if no one else liked the podfic, I like it and like listening to it and having a tangible something I made.
...And I'm almost finished uploading! \o/

AND AUDACITY LOST THE WHOLE THING.
I have an hour of rough edits saved in a different file, thank god, but there are words missing due to visual editing that I can usually go fill in with the raw audio later. NOT THIS TIME.
*manic laugh*
I'm going to have to do a FOURTH TAKE omg.
I'm cursed.

I would have been ready to throw in the towel at that point. For real. 4 tries recording something is TOO MUCH. *crazy eyes*

A couple of things keep me going. Partly, I feel very little pressure. Podfic is something I do almost entirely for my own pleasure, it's one of the few parts of my life where I don't feel I have to "achieve all the things". So when other things are stressing me out, this is something I can take refuge in. (The other things being knitting - which I'm sometimes prevented from by RSI, and reading - which sometimes doesn't feel "productive" enough. Because my brain is helpful like that.)
I also love the fics I choose to record. Reading them out loud is a completely different level of engagement with the writing, the plot, the characters. I enjoy that.
On a different note, does anyone else here record in something other than Audacity? I edit in Audacity, but I use the Ubuntu sound recording app for the actual recording. It results in lots of small, clean files that I then have to stitch together in Audacity (there'll be over 300 in my current project!), but it does mean Audacity can't hold my raw audio hostage if it crashes.

And, I record in Audacity, but I know others who use Auphonic and Garageband, which are free and some people who paid for their recording programs.

So I forgot to post yesterday, but I'm in overdrive. I think between yesterday and today, I've done about 10 hours of editing. My podfic birthday is in just a few minutes, and I tried really hard to get the "big project" done to post later, but I'm not going to be able to do it. It's nearly done, but needs the final listen through and a little TLC to implement the beta notes. (I have a lovely lady pre-listening for me and catching all my missed edits etc).
Anyway. I'm in the final descent...I'm hoping to report that I posted it in the next 2 days.
