I spent a bunch of time yesterday trying to figure out how to edit and then I tried to edit this morning, but realized after 3 minutes of listening to myself read that I breath too loudly and I'm going to re-record. I am going to do that tomorrow. Uh, this won't be finished by the end of the month, but I've made good progress. Soon. Maybe by the end of next week.

OMG. THIS RIGHT HERE. I'm a loud person, IRL and my breathing is everywhere. I also swallow a lot, so I feel you on the rerecording front.

Crap. Ok, how do you make the breathing not so loud? Do you pause to take a breath? WHAT CAN I DO? I didn't used to think I was terribly loud. Maybe I should sit a little farther back from the mic. I've got an external mic.

You can pause, but that can sometimes interrupt of the flow of the story - in my experience. Are you using Audacity? If so, you can either silence the breath out entirely under "Generate --> Silence" or you can use the "Amplify" effect. It lets you amplify or de-amplify a sound, by putting in a positive or negative dB value.

Yeah, I saw her awesome post, but I am using Garageband. I am going to try pausing.

Also, how do you slow yourself down? I think I might be reading a hair too fast.

0_0. Oh, dear, I'm still working on that one. Every time I try to slow down it sounds like cartoonish slo-mo (deep voice and all T____T).

I think that what I recorded today might be acceptable. Maybe. I have to say, this experience isn't making me excited to do more. But then again, in February I am pretty sure I said I was never doing another one and here I am with an external mic and actually editing, so who knows what the future holds:D

I know! For a lot of people, editing is a chance to relive their podfics again and it's definitely my LEAST favorite part of the process. (>_>)

I did a 6 min podcast on this, but podfic is basically how I express my head canon, so I suffer through editing to make that happen. ♥

I hate hearing my breathing in podfics, so I always copy a clean bit of white noise from somewhere and paste over all my breathing. It takes a while, but I like how it makes my recordings sound clean, and pasting in white noise lets me tweak pacing/timing as well. I also prefer to paste white noise instead of just silencing so there's no weirdness in the background noise of the podfic.

Ok! I might go so far as to do that with some of the breaths. We'll see how frustrating it is.

Skimming through the fic I'm recording next, playing with character voices. (Why are there so many new characters? What was I thinking?) We'll call it 20 minutes of work.

I don't know. The two short things I'm editing, the sound quality is dreadful and I kind of want to record. And the other is long. So, who knows!

Posting is ridiculous. (There's uh, a reason I've put up five podfics in the last week and it ain't that I've been producing podfic more quickly.)
